CII & SIDM's National Seminar
Startups-Cutting Edge for Technology Infusion into Defence
0900 – 1800 hrs | 13 August 2019 | India Habitat Centre, New Delhi
The Government of India through its flagship ‘Startup India’ Scheme, intended to catalyse startup culture and build a strong and inclusive ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship in India. Since the launch of the initiative on 16th January 2016, Startup India has rolled out several programs with the objective of supporting entrepreneurs and transforming India into a country of job creators instead of job seekers.
With more than 14,000 recognised Startups under DPIIT and a battery of enablers like tax exemptions, Tinkering Labs, Technology Business Incubation (TBI), Ucchatar Aavishkar Yojna (UAY), Inspire Awards-Manak, NIDIH (National Initiative for Development and Harnessing Innovation) and Faster Exits for Startups under I&BA, there is vast potential for Startups to attain centre-stage in leading India into the arena of high tech and niche technologies manufacturing and trade.
It must also be pointed out that in the Defence sector, startups are far and few between. Those who have ventured in, for obvious reasons are in Tier 2 and 3 levels with very few in Tier 1. The few startups who have made a mark in as defence startups rely more on export orders from Global OEMs who have effectively integrated them into their value chain. The situation may be ascribed to the low volume of indigenous military demand or defence budget constraints. The advantage of engaging startups emanates from their cost competitiveness and ability to imbibe cutting edge technology in product design and manufacture. World over, especially in the US, start-ups have taken centre stage in driving innovation in military technology.
To add momentum to the government's initiatives, SIDM in association with CII is conducting a National Seminar on ‘Startups - Cutting Edge for Technology Infusion into Defence’ on 13 August 2019 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
