Seminar On “Modernisation And Indigenisation Plans Of The Indian Air Force”

Event Information:

  • Tue, Aug 20 2019
  • Air Force Auditorium, Subroto Park, New Delhi

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is emerging as a technologically advanced potent force. Rapid strides in technology are radically changing the reach and lethality of air power. IAF needs to acquire a host of platforms and systems to keep pace with changing technologies and boost its operational capabilities. The capabilities that IAF needs could be a mix of advanced technologies, futuristic or even contemporary. In the last few years, various initiatives of the MoD have also matured for realizing the vision behind "Make in India". A host of Indian companies have established Joint Ventures with international firms for the production of aviation spares within the country.  Many of the capabilities and products required by the IAF can be sourced from Indian industry through this enhanced collaboration between foreign OEMs and Indian entities.

New Philosophies and methodologies have been introduced in MROs for efficient life cycle management of aviation assets. From periodic maintenance, philosophy in aviation has gradually shifted to predictive maintenance. Therefore, there is a scope to converge IAF's requirements and the Indian industry's capabilities to offer solutions towards predictive maintenance. Despite efforts, a lot of revenue budget is still OEM dependent for spares and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) support.

Self-reliance in defence acquisition will be a real contributor to the "Make in India" scheme. The simplified Make-II procedure introduced in 2018 is a major catalyst for the transformation of defence manufacturing in India. With schemes like i-DEX and SPARK in place, innovations being undertaken by new entrants and startups are also finding a platform. Utilization of niche technologies like Artificial intelligence, Machine learning and Data Analytics in aviation can open new frontiers in sustenance and obsolescence management.

To get the industry and IAF on a common platform in terms of capital and revenue acquisition, Indian Air Force(IAF) in collaboration with the Society of Indian defence manufacturers (SIDM) & Confederation of Indian Industry ( CII) is organising this seminar on 20 August 2019 in New Delhi.
