Context

The Ministry of Defence has taken some important policy initiatives in the recent years, to position India as an emerging manufacturing hub. DPP 2016 favouring Make In India, simplifying of Make II Procedure to encourage Suo Moto proposals by Industry, easing of policies in procurement of new platforms and sustaining existing equipment to enhance operational capability of the armed forces, the Draft Defence Production Policy 2018, Technology Perspective Capability Requirement 2018, amendments to DPP 2016 in May 2018 for ease of doing business in defence procurements, and the policy encouraging exports in defence sector, have all paved the way for creation of a robust defence manufacturing ecosystem in the country.

The Hon’ble Raksha Mantri recently extended support to the long-term capability acquisition plans of the Indian Navy that have been formulated with a strategic view of the Indo-Pacific region. With the increasing ship design and building capability of the Indian Navy, both surface and underwater, opportunities for manufacturing in India are tremendous. The shipbuilding projects, Mine Counter Measure Vessels (MCMVs), Landing Platform Dock (LPD), Anti-Submarine Shallow Water Craft, Diving Support Vessels and Survey Vessels are expected to provide a major thrust to the ‘Make-in-India’ initiative of the Government. The fifteen-year “Naval Indigenisation Plan” promulgated in 2015 by the Indian Navy has set the tone for the Indian industry to create infrastructure and jobs.

Andhra Pradesh has established itself as one of the most prominent connection points with major world markets. The State is home to a number of Defence manufacturing facilities which offer significant advantages to industrial units in Aerospace, Defence & Naval sector. The infrastructure of the state provides ample opportunity for industries to trade with various countries across the globe.
